Ensar Mulahmetovic

Research Scientist

Ensar holds a BSc in Chemical Sciences with Medicinal Chemistry (Hon 1.1) which he obtained from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2013 finishing top of his class. During his studies he undertook a six month research project in BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing) located in Berlin, Germany.  Here he worked on the synthesis and characterisation of a variety of boron-dipyrromethene dyes used in imaging techniques. His final year project titled Synthesis of a Substituted Indenone in which he explored two synthetic routes in forming 6-methoxy-3-phenylindenone, an analogue of more complex ring structures used in the treatment of drug resistant cancerous cells as well as the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease was also recognised as the best project in his class. He was also awarded the Institute of Chemistry in Ireland Membership Award for his performance in chemistry in his final year.

Ensar is currently working towards a PhD with the CREST group under the supervision of Dr. Gráinne Hargaden (School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, DIT Kevin St.) and Dr. Brendan Duffy, CREST Centre Manager on developing novel magnetic reservoirs for medicine and catalysis.
