Dr Muhammad Morshed

Research Scientist

Dr. Muhammad Morshed (Morshed) joined CREST as a Senior Research Scientist in April 2014 and has been working on a collaborative industrial project with an Irish based MNC.

Prior to joining CREST he worked in Dublin City University (DCU) in various roles such as technical officer, research engineer, postdoctoral researcher in the Nano Plasma Lab (NPL) Group at National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology (NCPST). In these roles he was involved in plasma etching, deposition and characterisation of different types of plasma process and plasma diagnostic using invasive and non-invasive methods. He was in charge of cleanroom class 100 and 1000. During this period, he was heavily involved in many national (SFI, EI) and international (EU-FP6 and FP7) funded research projects with hands on research and management activities.  

He was also lecturing first year undergraduate on foundation of aviation studies and MSc level courses on vacuum technology in the School of Electronic Engineering at DCU. I

Morshed completed a PhD from Dublin City University on deposition and characterisation of diamond like carbon (DLC) biocompatible coating to improve the adhesion and mechanical properties of principal surgical metals and polymer for the application of medical devices and implants. Previous to that he completed an MSc engineering degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. The focus of the research was on tribological performance of phenolic based polymer matrix composite (PMC) which is widely used in automobile brake shoe lining.

His main research interest lies on dry plasma etching, plasma deposition technique, thin films/coatings, nanostructure materials and surface engineering, material characterisation, materials aspects of tribology, polymer matrix composite (PMC), eco friendly natural fibre and modeling and simulation. To date he has published more than 30 high impact factor scientific journal and peer reviewed conference papers. He is a chartered member of Engineers Ireland.
